Acting General Manager

Acting General Manager

Acting General Manager

Role Overview

At Thousands of Years Media Sdn. Bhd. (ToYm), we are looking for proven business leaders who are ready to take ownership of a team, drive commercial results and build a business unit capable of growing at scale.

As ToYm expands, we are building multiple business teams, each led by an Acting General Manager with responsibility for its people, revenue, execution and overall performance.

This is not a coordination or administrative management role.

You will be expected to:

  • Build and lead your own high-performing team.
  • Drive revenue and business growth.
  • Turn company direction into clear execution.
  • Develop new business opportunities.
  • Ensure different functions work together effectively.
  • Solve problems and make decisions.
  • Develop future leaders.
  • Take ownership of your team’s overall results.

You will operate like the leader of a business within the larger ToYm organisation.

Why This Opportunity Is Different

Many management positions give you responsibility for one department.

This role gives you responsibility for results across an entire team.

You will work across functions such as:

  • Sales & Business Development
  • Client Services
  • Creative & Content
  • Production
  • 技术
  • Operations

Your responsibility is not simply to make sure everyone is busy. Your responsibility is to make sure the team produces results.

You will have the opportunity to build your team, develop its capabilities and demonstrate that you can successfully lead a growing business operation.

Job Description

What You Will Own

1. Own Your Team’s Business Results

Take overall responsibility for your team’s performance. You will be accountable for:

  • Revenue
  • Profitability
  • Sales Pipeline
  • Collection
  • Client Growth & Retention
  • Project Delivery
  • Team Performance
  • Operational Effectiveness

Know where your team stands, what is working, what is not working and what needs to happen next.

2. Drive Revenue & Business Growth

  • Work closely with Sales and Client Services to build revenue and develop new business.
  • Ensure the team maintains a strong and actionable sales pipeline.
  • Participate directly in major pitches, negotiations and strategic client discussions when required.
  • Develop existing clients into larger and longer-term accounts.
  • Identify new commercial opportunities, partnerships and revenue channels.
  • Ensure commercial opportunities are followed through until results are achieved.

You do not need to personally close every deal, but you must be capable of helping the team create, progress and win business.

3. Build & Lead a High-Performing Team

  • Build the right team structure around business objectives.
  • Lead managers and team members across different functions.
  • Set clear responsibilities, targets and expectations.
  • Identify performance gaps and take action quickly.
  • Coach and develop people who demonstrate potential.
  • Build future managers and leaders instead of creating a team that depends entirely on you.

Your success is not measured only by what you can personally achieve. It is also measured by what your team can achieve under your leadership.

4. Turn Strategy Into Execution

Management may establish the direction. Your responsibility is to make it happen.

  • Translate company objectives into clear team priorities and action plans.
  • Break larger goals into measurable responsibilities and timelines.
  • Ensure teams understand what needs to be achieved and why.
  • Follow through until actions are completed and results are produced.
  • Remove bottlenecks that prevent execution.

Do not allow plans to remain as presentations, meetings or discussions. Turn them into results.

5. Connect Different Functions

A strong business cannot operate in silos.

  • Ensure Sales, Client Services, Creative, Content, Production, Marketing and Operations work towards the same objectives.
  • Establish clear ownership between functions.
  • Resolve cross-functional issues quickly.
  • Improve communication and workflow.
  • Ensure commercial commitments can actually be delivered.
  • Balance client expectations, creative quality, operational capacity and profitability.

6. Make Decisions & Solve Problems

You will be expected to take ownership when problems arise, including:

  • Commercial Challenges
  • Client Issues
  • Team Performance
  • Resource Constraints
  • Delivery Problems
  • Operational Bottlenecks
  • Internal Coordination
  • Unexpected Business Issues

Understand the problem, identify the root cause, make a decision and drive the solution. Escalate when necessary – but do not make escalation your default solution.

7. Build Management Discipline

Create a team that operates with visibility and accountability. Ensure there is clear tracking of:

  • Revenue
  • Pipeline
  • Collection
  • Client Status
  • Project Status
  • Profitability
  • Team Targets
  • Key Problems
  • Action Plans

Reports should not exist merely for reporting purposes. Use information to identify problems, make decisions and drive action.

8. Develop the Next Level of Leaders

  • Identify high-potential team members.
  • Coach managers to become stronger leaders.
  • Delegate real ownership.
  • Develop succession within the team.
  • Build a structure that can continue performing as the business grows.

A strong Acting General Manager should eventually be able to build more managers, stronger teams and greater business capacity.

You are comfortable operating in an environment where priorities can move quickly and leaders are expected to take ownership rather than wait for instructions.
